museum of alexandra

layout archive

now that the museum is two years old, this is a collection of past layouts that decorated the museum of alexandra.

first iteration: november 2021

this was my first layout back into the personal web space after years away, and i already wanted to change it by the time it was live. i wanted to incorporate nostalgic elements without trying too hard, but there were some things i'd do differently now, especially surrounding the color palette and typography.

second iteration: april 2022

these shades of blue are my favorite colors, and i liked the simplicity of this layout. this was the first full-width layout, and something i wanted to continue building on for future layouts. i wanted to evoke the feeling of browsing an actual museum website with a personal spin on that concept.

third iteration: november 2022

in the third iteration, for my year anniversary, i leaned into the nostalgic/retroweb aesthetic, especially centering around pixelated fonts throughout the layout. the navigation was made with tables, which also felt a bit nostalgic. the size of content was increasing, though, and navigation was becoming unwieldy.

fourth iteration: june 2023

mint green! this layout definitely had mermaid vibes. i kept the table navigation in lieu of a complete redo, but increased the size of the viewing window. there's also a greek typeface throughout the layout to bring the museum theme into the layout.

fifth iteration: november 2023

this pretty-in-pink style came about still using the iframe navigation. this design felt simple with personality, which i was happy with. i love backgrounds on text and enjoyed that on the navigation. however, i found out after i made this that using details for navigation was not accessible at all, and i knew this was the time to redo the navigation.

sixth iteration: june 2024

the dropdown navigation used javascript, which is not ideal, but i wanted to stick with things i felt comfortable coding. i wanted to evoke a spirit of nature and summer all in one, especially as green as been a very calming and joyful color for me.

seventh iteration: november 2025

this is the current layout!
